Alberta Food Tours expands into YEG and Canmore

If you drive across town to try a new dish or restaurant, then you’re officially a food tourist. And as such, you will be interested in a new business making its way into Edmonton.

Karen Anderson, who has owned and run Calgary Food Tours for ten years in our sister city to the south, is expanding into Edmonton and Canmore. By the end of July, she hopes to be running walking tours of Edmonton’s best food areas, complete with delicious samples and local history under the name of Alberta Food Tours. (Full disclosure: I may be leading tours from time to time in Edmonton, along with local chef and former restaurant owner, Cindy Lazarenko of On Our Table.)

To help get this expansion off the ground, Anderson has partnered with Alberta Treasury Branch’s Boostr campaign to crowdsource $20,000 of operating funds by May 16. Check out her video for more details.

Anderson runs five different tours in Calgary, covering districts such as Inglewood, Kensington and 17th Avenue. I think it’s a great idea for Anderson to bring her model to Edmonton, where 104th Street, 124th Street and Whyte Avenue would be prime locations for a savoury sampling of our city.
